"What's with the name of your ministry?"

The name of the ministry comes from two pivotal, personal moments in my walk with the Lord. The first came as a teenager in youth group. While sharing a struggle during prayer request time, I asked that they would pray for me to see a circumstance through God’s eyes. My youth pastor’s wife made a big deal about how good it was that I wasn’t asking God to take away the hardship, rather I was praying for His perspective on it. (All you dear women who work with youth - your words have precious impact you can’t even realize on your kids!) That affirmed my search for God’s perspective and cemented it in my prayer life and Bible study. The second instance came years later during my devotional studies. As I allowed God’s Word to permeate my identity - truly believing what my Creator said about who I was rather than other forces, including my perspective, define me - I came across these verses:

Keep me as the apple of your eye;
Hide me in the shadow of Your wings
Psalm 17:8 NAS

... for he who touches you, touches the apple of His eye
Zechariah 2:8 NAS

The phrase “apple of my eye” means something affectionate, but honestly, it sounds a little weird.  The phrase refers to the reflection you see in another person’s eyes when you are really close to them. When you are held close to someone you can see your own reflection in their eyes.   The Lord wants to hold you so close to His heart that you can see your reflection in His eyes.

Too often, we live so close to the world, that we see our lives reflected in the gleam of the world, instead of in our Father’s loving eyes. It is only in our desperate search for His perspective on our lives that we are able to find freedom, joy, peace and hope.

So, the name? It comes from my own searching for God’s perspective on every facet of my life. And the content of the ministry is just my honest journey with God - you’re welcome to join me!
